IWMP Online Consultation Open!

Body:

The Red Deer River Watershed Alliance (RDRWA) has reached a major milestone in its planning process to protect the health of the Red Deer River watershed. The RDRWA is now seeking public input on a draft Integrated Watershed Management Plan, Phase One, Water Quality.

Several years in the making, the RDRWA released a draft Integrated Watershed Management Plan, Phase One, Water Quality on September 23rd, 2015. The organization is currently seeking feedback on the draft plan from the public through an online survey. The online survey is a key opportunity for anyone who lives, works, and plays in the Red Deer River watershed to help chart a course forward for watershed management and water quality. Please join the conversation!

The draft Integrated Watershed Management Plan and the online survey are accessible here:

The online survey will be active from September 23rd to October 14th, 2015. Paper copies can be requested by calling the RDRWA at 1-403-340-7379.

The draft Integrated Watershed Management Plan (IWMP) is a decision-support tool for people across the Red Deer River Watershed to use as they work together to maintain and improve water quality conditions. The draft plan present goals, targets, and recommendations to maintain and/or improve surface water and groundwater quality in the Red Deer River watershed. It the product of extensive community engagement and research over several years, and its implementation will require commitment and buy-in from a range of individuals and organizations.

Following community workshops held in Red Deer and Olds on September 15th and 17th this year, the online survey represents the final opportunity for stakeholder and public input on this phase of the plan. The RDRWA aims to finalize the first phase of the plan in late 2015, prior to moving on to subsequent phases that will address land use, riparian areas, wetlands, biodiversity, and water quantity.
