Overview:

Organizational Context: The Red Deer River Watershed Alliance is a multi-sector, non-profit organization that promotes the good use and proper management of water within the Red Deer River Watershed. A designated Watershed Planning and Advisory Council under Alberta’s Water for Life Strategy (2003), we play a key role in helping to ensure our watershed is healthy, dynamic, and sustainable. The RDRWA has a strong history of engaging with stakeholders and partners in innovative ways to engage heads, hands, and hearts.  The Red Deer River watershed is located in Central Alberta and feeds into the larger South Saskatchewan River basin.

Job purpose: In this role you will be tasked with leading community mobilization efforts related to water issues, through a focus on outreach and communications. You will play a critical role to activate and sustain support for collaborative action in the Red Deer River watershed, while helping boost community understanding of watershed issues. In this role, you will take a lead on:

Designing and implementing strategies and actions to pursue community and system change related to watershed health

Building and maintaining relationships with key constituents
Coordinating the design and delivery of key messaging using creative communication techniques
Building and delivering education and outreach programming to diverse audiences

As a frontline voice for the organization, you will work with a broad spectrum of community members of different ages, organizational affiliations, and sectors that are affected by, and essential to addressing shared watershed issues.

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s Degree - preferably in disciplines such as Science (Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science), Education, or Communications.

2+ Years’ experience working in environmental outreach/ education / stakeholder engagement

Knowledge and Skills, Required

Ability to design, implement, evaluate, and adapt programs (internally and externally)

Organizational development: demonstrated experience engaging partners, working in a team, maintaining multiple priorities

Verbal communication: excellent public presentation skills and inter-personal skills

Written communication: proven experience creating and editing professional content for various audiences

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel, Powerpoint); 

Knowledge and Skills, preferred

Visual and electronic communication: proficiency with social media and visual communications tools (Canva, Illustrator)

Be familiar with water and land-use issues in Alberta (or have strong willingness and ability to learn)

Group facilitation skills, particularly in complex multi-stakeholder environments

A love of the outdoors and experience leading groups outside

Other requirements

A valid class 5 driver’s license and ability to travel throughout the watershed

Must obtain a RCMP Criminal Record Check
