Exciting times for the RDRWA

Body:

Executive Director’s Update-November

It is with great pleasure that I can announce some exciting  new developments here at the RDRWA. First of all, I would like to introduce you all to our new Outreach and Communications Manager-Rosemarie Ferjuc. Rosemarie is a wetland ecologist with a wealth of experience in bringing science to life, and is proving a great asset to the team in leading our communications and engagement work. Welcome Rosemarie!

Josée Méthot, our Watershed Planning Manager, left on maternity leave on October 20th, and on November 1st, welcomed Xavier Ellis Dumas into the world. Congratulations Josée and Francis!

Kelly Dodds, our wonderful Executive Assistant, also recently completed 5 years with the RDRWA! Great job Kelly!

We recently received a $4,000 grant from Plains Midstream Canada, and a $1,000 donation from Troubled Monk Brewery. Thank you for your continued support  of our work! A special mention should also be made to Alberta Environment & Parks who continue to support the RDRWA (with a $290,000 grant), municipalities and the Environmental Damages Fund for their continued support of the RDRWA.

I have been selected to join the TD Bank Friends of the Environment Foundation Leadership Program in Orillia next week; a great opportunity for both myself and the RDRWA to lead watershed planning and management into the future.

We have been busy supporting Red Deer and Clearwater Counties on their digital story telling program this month, and hope to have some great stories online in the new year.

We have also been busy working with other WPACs, the Government and Red Deer River  Municipal Users Group on a ten year review of the South Saskatchewan River Basin Water Management Plan.

And you may have seen our new Red Deer River Watershed road signs located near Caroline and Cochrane- some of the first highway Watershed signs in Alberta.

Please look out for and share our upcoming Christmas campaign, because a healthy, dynamic and sustainable watershed requires all of us working together!

Thanks,

Jeff Hanger
