Troubled Waters? Not with the Red Deer Watershed Alliance's Efforts

The Troubled Monk Brewery is proud to have selected a charity organization that celebrates and works to protect the base of their great Troubled Monk beer - Red Deer River water. It is well-known that throughout history, the natural variability in water chemistry of local water supplies has resulted in the proliferation of famous beer styles. For example, the high mineral waters for the stouts of Ireland or the soft waters of Pilsen for the pilsner style. Although brewers in the modern age adjust water chemistry to brew a variety of styles, having a reliable source of clean water remains just as important today.

At Troubled Monk we are lucky to have good quality, clean water in the Red Deer River; water which originates in the Rocky Mountains from the Panther, James, Raven, and Little Red Deer watersheds. They additionally recognize and appreciate the collaborative work of the Red Deer River Watershed Alliance which promotes a healthy watershed and river to ensure a legacy of ecological integrity and economic sustainability. Through their work and the work of their partners from industry, agriculture, forestry, stewardship groups, and municipal and provincial governments we can ensure that we’ll continue to have good quality water now and in the future… and that means Troubled Monk can continue to brew great beer!
