Public and Stakeholder Consultations on Watershed Planning

October 25, 2013 - As part of the development of the Watershed Alliance’s Integrated Watershed Management Plan, two multi-stakeholder workshops were held in the watershed. The workshops were held in Red Deer on September 24 and in Drumheller on September 26. A workshop planned for Sundre on September 25 was cancelled due to low registration. An online Response Form was also used to gather stakeholder and public input.

Results of the consultation process, which included review of the third Background Technical Report on Surface Water Quantity and Groundwater Resources, will be available on this site soon.

The workshops, which were open to public and stakeholders, ran from 10 am to 3 pm.

In the morning, O2 Planning + Design presented its report on surface water quantity and groundwater resources in the watershed, followed by questions, answers and comments. This is the third of what will be four Background Technical Reports, which will form a foundation of information on which to build the Integrated Watershed Management Plan. The latest report is available on the Alliance’s website here.

In the afternoon, the workshops explored what stakeholders are already doing in the area of surface water quantity and groundwater resources. There were also discussions on how groups and individuals could work together to implement the watershed plan.
