2014 Red Deer River Clean-up

I was very happy to lead a group of RBC volunteers on the Red Deer River Clean-up. We were lucky to have such a beautiful day and the company of a great group of people for the annual clean-up of our river. The event was well-attended and excellently run; my six year-old daughter was very impressed with her Red Deer River Clean-up Certificate. The event attracted 126 volunteers this year including UofC alumni and dozens of Red Deerians!

I am glad to say that our route was relatively clean and most of what we picked up was cigarette butts and litter. And overall, a dishwasher, an oven, a walker, a backpack frame, plywood, a shopping cart, a tarp, aluminum siding, a bicycle, a bumper, and a raft were removed from the river for a grand total of 117 bags or 1170 lbs of garbage!

We look forward to next year's event and invite you to join us as we help protect this most precious asset of our community!
