Watershed Alliance Annual General Meeting will occur June 20, 2013


Red Deer - The Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Forum of the Red Deer River Watershed Alliance (RDRWA) Society is scheduled to occur Thursday, June 20, 2013 in Red Deer, Alberta. The Red Deer River Watershed Alliance is a multi-sector, non-profit organization that promotes the good use and proper management of water in the Red Deer River watershed. RDRWA is one of 11 Watershed Planning and Advisory Councils (WPACs) mandated by the Province of Alberta through its Water for Life Strategy.

Gerard Aldridge, Executive Director of the Alliance said, “A Notice of the AGM went out to our membership in May, but we want the general public to know the meeting and forum are open to non-members too.” Getting underway at 9:30 a.m., it will be held at the Quality Inn North Hill, 7150 50 Avenue in the City of Red Deer. There is a cost of $20 per person attending the event; refreshments and lunch are provided. Organizers mention the Red Deer River Watershed Alliance Society is a registered charity. They also advise that 2013/14 memberships can be completed at the AGM for all interested attendees. Although RDRWA does not charge for membership in the organization, donations are gratefully accepted and official tax receipts will be issued on donations of $20 or more.

At this year’s event, the Honourable Maryanne Jablonski will bring greetings on behalf of the Province of Alberta. The AGM business will be conducted in the morning. This includes reports on the year ending March 31, 2013, plans for the 2013/14 year, Board and Member-proposed bylaw amendments and election of Board Members.

In the afternoon AGM Forum speakers include Brenda Rebman of Futures Resource Partners Inc. and Andy Ridge of Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resource Development. Brenda, will speak about, Change Leadership: A Required Competency. Andy’s talk will be on, Water Management in Alberta: Directions from the Provincial Water Conversation.

The Red Deer River watershed covers over 49,000 square kilometers, stretching over 724 kilometers. The watershed extends from the Rocky Mountains to the point where the Red Deer River empties into the South Saskatchewan River, beyond Alberta’s eastern border, in neighbouring Saskatchewan.
